Bandit Films was set up by Johnny Gogan in 1990 to make the award winning short film Stephen.

The company has been based in Leitrim since 1997 and has produced a range of documentary and fiction film which has been both locally and internationally engaged.

The vibrant artistic community in the North West has been of great benefit to Bandit Films as is evident from the production of films such as Black Ice, currently screening on Netflix; Groundswell, last year’s featue documentary release or this year’s Love Song to a Bicycle which screened at the Galway Film Fleadh.

The year 2022 has seen continued outings for titles such as Generate the State (recently re-licenced by TG4), Hubert Butler Witness to the Future (also playing on Netflix) and Groundswell which continues one-off screenings for audiences engaging in climate and environmental issues. This year also sees the revival of Adaptation Film Weekend which Johnny and the company initiated for Cinema North West in 2005.

The company is currently in development with a range of projects including a film version of Johnny’s novel Station to Station, Spanish Civil War documentary Behind the Lines and Remote, the planned third drama in a trilogy - which includes Mapmaker (2002) and Black Ice (2013) - of films the company has made against the backdrop of the Irish north-south border.
